A View from the Caburn

Wow this last week has been a bit different!  Between us we've spent a few hours over the last two days dancing with sheep! Actually trying to round them up from all over Caburn but they had other ideas and had you been a passer by it would have looked like we were all dancing with them, waving and lunging about on the hillside like lunatics!  Here they are looking like butter wouldn't melt...…

A View from the Caburn 10th Feb 2011

Last week Mat was mostly to be found shovelling mountains of compost and topsoil - fantastic, local, South Downs compost and topsoil made out of green waste collected from the local area and made lovingly by T J Composting.  Phil the farmer helped us to pick up 5 tonnes with the aid of his tractor and trailer, which then needed moving by hand into large bags for storage; go…

Rehousing local hens...

Can anybody help Sharon to find homes for free range, organic "end of lay" hens.  These hens from Ditchling are still laying but just not enough to be commercially viable and with shells that are fine but unacceptable for the supermarkets!  Contact sharonkaye33@yahoo.com

Thanks to Irene for details of the 38 degrees campaign to question current plans to build huge 'mega-dairies' in Lincolnshire.  These huge, US-style factory farms keep cows inside all year. The cows aren't even fed on grass.
