A View from the Caburn

Finally the moment of truth arrived as we opened the tearoom last weekend for the first time, a practice run lets call it for the grand reopening on the first weekend in April. With minimal fanfare and advertising the moment arrived, the sun was out and the paragliders up in the air, we could not have asked for more. Saturday was fairly quiet and gave us a good chance to hone our skills at the pass, front of house, till and card machine. Sunday was busier and felt really great, we had wonderful comments from our customers about both the food (particularly the carrot cake) and the feel and look of the place, so we're delighted.

Monday morning Mat fed the cows while I took the dogs for a long walk around the farm at Ranscombe and over Mount Caburn and then we enjoyed some time at the Glynde Gardens planting more seeds, both flowers and vegetables. Monday afternoon we helped Phil turn the steers out over at Bushy Lodge and mend a fence or two - the three of us squeezed into the tractor cab to move about the farm which was cosy, not to mention bumpy. I got to drive, well probably just steer really, the tractor back up the farm track, which at least meant I had a portion of the comfy seat!

Mat rotorvated the tearoom vegetable patch today, having done Phil and Rosemary's last week, looking forward to getting some earlies in soon. We also have a dalek lookalike food digester to install in the middle of the veg patch so all the food waste from the tearoom can go to improve the soil where the veg is grown - proper feedback loop (pun awfully intended).

Looking forward to another trial run at the tearoom this weekend and enjoying this warm weather, long may it last...
