I'm interested in finding out how good internet connection is in the rural areas around Lewes?

Living and working in a small rural community I find that my internet speed seems to vary from day to day... I'm not sure how fast it could be? My connection has certainly deteriorated markedly recently, but there may well be things that I could do to help here, my computer probably needs a good spring clean! http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/speed_tips.shtml

The 2010 BT Race to Infinity campaignnow has winners nbased on those communities who were best organised to respond to their campaign. The Lewes ranking is 810....

The “ambition” to deliver a ‘digital hub’ in every community in the country is at the heart of  the Government’s £830 million strategy to make sure the UK has the best broadband network in Europe by 2015.

The FSB report about the last meeting of the Local Enterprise Partnership reports that East Sussex County Council has pledged £2 million to develop superfast Broadband access, especially into rural areas. RGF bids have been submitted to develop Priory Quarter, Hastings and an Enviro-Business park across sites in Bexhill, St Leonards and Hastings. Future bids could include a Science park at Sovereign Harbour, Eastbourne and development of Newhaven Port. There was no mention of the rural communities?

Does anybody know why rural internet access on Sundays is useless!.. it has just taken me twenty minutes to close some windows and open this site!

Thanks Susan,

Useful to know.   I've been doing some research myself and the Lewes Community Internet is an interesting example of people solving a problem. There could be a way of getting all the ouse valley villages connected with little funding and support.  Meraki is the system recommended by LCI.

I am arranging a meeting with a company that specialises in setting up high speed internet in rural communities - they are currently working in Skegness and have covered areas of Hampshire.

Iana is setting up a meeting to form an Ouse Valley Broadband group which will be discussing the following:

  • Setting up a website to promote our project.
  • How best to communicate our intent to work alongside ESCC to deliver a broadband solution to the Ouse Valley.
  • Working on our own Ouse Valley declaration.
  • Choosing broadband champions[4] for Kingston, Iford, Swanborough, Southease Rodmell and Piddinghoe.
  • Identify businesses in the Ouse Valley to act as project ambassadors.

The following link www.broadbandcumbria.com shows how this community, part of a national pilot project, is working together to achieve high speed rural broadband delivery.
