The central recommendation of this Sussex Universtiy Energy Group report recently commisssioned by Friends of the Earth is that a much greater focus is needed on community-scale energy generation.
The Government must ensure that robust action is taken in coming months and years to ensure the UK meets its 2020 renewable energy target – and to enable further growth of renewables beyond 2020. This will also help set the country on the right course to meet emissions reduction targets under the Climate Change Act, and build a strong low-carbon economy.
The Government's Committee on Climate Change has recommended decarbonising the power sector by around 90 per cent by 2030.
Friends of the Earth is calling for a proper Green Bank to help ensure investment in green industries, jobs and technologies.
