URGENT ACTION: Consultation about Sustainable Sussex Transport options

Thank you to Andy Lock of Cycle Seahaven for his reminder about contributions to our draft local transport plan:

Details @http://www.eastsussex.gov.uk/yourcouncil/consultation/current.htm

We have been assured by Penelope Bentley of the ESCC Transport Policy team that although the end date for submissions is 4 January, responses received up to Friday 7 Jan will be accepted.

.

The council were very open to fresh ideas at the ESCC Community Transport conference last autumn and Norman Baker as our MP and Minister for Transport has recently indicated future support for Ouse valley cycle paths.

The current plan is for a cycle path beside the very busy A26 rather than through our beautiful green valley... Development of cycle paths can be seen as overly utilitarian by focusing too much on the daily commute to work.

There is still a chance to discuss/ acknowledge the leisure/economic benefits of a more user friendly development. Leisure cycling has been prioritised in Copenhagen and to an extent closer to home in Brighton... Time to think outside the box?

Time to look again at the draft plans for an Ouse valley Greenway /Avenue Verte link as a way of encouraging sustainable economic regeneration of the lower Ouse valley through tourism?

This could be a real chance for our pro-cycling and community transport voices to be heard...
