An enjoyable muddy walk today navigating through the railway land meeting new village connections from Ardingly, Cooksbridge and Horam, some discovering the central Lewes nature reserve and Snowdrop Inn for the first time.

Plumpton village footpaths group have invited village connections to join their week of walks at the end of March.

“The main walk will be on Sunday 27th March - a led walk from Lewes Station, along the Downs to Plumpton, and another in and around Plumpton, meeting up about 3pm at the Half Moon pub, at the foot of the Downs, for cream tea. We will then arrange lifts to Plumpton Station if needed, to get people home by train to Lewes”.

There are plans for a walk to the lost village of Balsdean to be guided by a local historian. Other suggestions have included a Bishopstone valley walk, Ardingly bluebells and a nature and bird observation walk possibly following the SOCS Ouse valey route maps.

A new Southease to Rodmell footpath was officially opened this weekend allowing people to avoid walking along the busy Lewes to Newhaven road.  New signposts and gates were partly funded by the South Downs Society.

A Seahaven Cyclists and Village Connections Ouse valley cycle ride is being planned for this spring to publicise the plans for a new cycle path.
