We're getting close to opening the Caburn Tea Room here at Ranscombe Farm and we've been preparing this week with a good old deep clean of the lovely farmhouse kitchen. The outdoor wooden tables and seating for the tearoom garden have been treated along with the plant tables and the arbour. We've been visiting some local suppliers including a trip round Downsview dairy Farm to see the holstein cows, milk parlour and ice cream making. Also popped in to Lewes Food Market to see our jam and chutney suppliers who have begun making our orders. Mat is putting our website together and it should be ready to go live tonight, here's hoping the fiddly bits un-fiddle themselves or it's going to be a long night...
Over at Glynde Gardens Spring is definitely in the air, plenty of daffodils everywhere, birds in fine song and plenty of growth in the greenhouse.
The vinca minor are my personal favourite at the moment looking splendid with masses of delicate purple flowers, think they will be a lovely addition to the plant tables come open day. Outside the greenhouse all the beds have been rotorvated by Mat and he's planted the first batch of gladioli.
Up and coming jobs over the next few days include rotorvating the vegetable beds here at Ranscombe Farm, both ours and Phil & Rosemary's as well as gardening in the tearoom garden whilst the weather is clement. Haven't been on the Caburn all week - miss that and hope to take the farm dogs for a blast on the hill at some point this weekend.
